Don't worry, OP, I have yet to see a single actual good RPer on Tumblr from any fandom I'm familiar with. Everything I've encountered seems to be on par with the horribly OOC, self-inserty garbage I wrote back in high school and yet you get people praising it to the heavens.

Basically, you're looking for some slightly less fetid turds in a pile of shit. It's hardly exclusive to Frozen.

I've seen some decent rp but I guess you're right; most of it's really bad. Not that most rp anywhere is amazing and perfect and wonderful (because it's def. not) but ooc garbage being praised is kind of sad.

Especially when it's by older fandom members. I learned years ago that most people are idiots, and that age =/= maturity or intelligence but it's hard to see people who should know better praising shit writing. Especially the english teachers. Ouch.

I've seen plenty of good RP around, but all of the good players I know stick to forums and journal sites like DW, LJ and IJ and won't touch Tumblr with a ten-foot pole. For one thing, the format is terrible for RPing, and for another, well... it's just bad.

A couple of my friends gave it a shot for a little while and I honestly didn't believe how bad it was until they showed me some of the messages they got from people looking for RP. Shiny Sparklesues who wanted to hook up with their canons, people who wanted to play out the most stereotypical of yaoi relationships, a ton of modern high school AUs, grammar that would put third graders to shame... sure, you'll find a certain amount of that anywhere, like you said, but on Tumblr that seems to be the majority rather than an unsavory minority.

There's some good stuff (I follow a Hannibal Lecter blog that could almost fit with canon), but it's absolutely overwhelmed by shit, you're right. In my experience, most of the good players tend to start off solo and either stay that way or form pairs/bitty groups, rather than having a "game" or a more traditional format.

Honestly, tumblr is just a terrible format for most RPing. The Lecter blog I mentioned works because the mun uses the style appropriately; it's mainly a blog, with lots of recipes and classical music and a fair amount of advice-giving. Their replies/threads aren't absurdly long, and are always under cuts to prevent that annoying chopped-off thing you get with too many block quotes. Sadly, most people don't use it as well as that mun, and so it is a clusterfuck. Hell, I tried to get into it and it was such a mess that I ended up retiring the character to a calmer life of dog blogging. (Since it was Will Graham, I feel I understand the core of his character even better now. :P)

As someone who eludes the concept of being a hardcore fan of a RP (I have blacklisted several RPs I don't even follow, because my dash is shaking and crying about them all the time), I can only know how it feels when the fandom's fav fanfic feels completely ooc to me... but I think it's probably a similar feeling...

A very similar feeling. I think I'll steer clear of RPs no matter how much praise they get from here on out.

That being said, Hans IS evil. I assume you mean they make him evil in an OOC manner though.

Yes, sorry for not clarifying. I could imagine him as an abusive boyfriend/fiancé/husband, but not in the way he's portrayed in that RP. Also, the Hans in the canon had clear motivations and the Hans in that RP has...no real motivation. He exists as a vehicle to hurt Anna (via beating the shit out of her and raping her) so that other characters can be the good guy.

I also find Anna's motivations to make little (read: absolutely no) sense.

I agree Hans is an "evil" character in Frozen for sure. Even the director said he was a sociopath, after all. But the way he acted in what I did read of that RP felt completely wrong even for him. IMO of course.

I don't usually follow tumblr rp, but my entire dash was crying about how many "feels" they were having for this RP and I checked it out. I really can't tell them to their faces what I think about it. I mean, ymmv and all that, but when people on my dash are constantly recommending it and heralding it as something great and something to be emulated it makes me want to puke.

RP is pretty self-indulgent, so it's not surprising that it's horribly OOC. Often the fandom favorite fic or RP is a terrible mess of OOC-ness, and it seems that you've found the one for your fandom.

Frozen fans sure are elitist about characterization for a movie with very simple characters.

This isn't a slight on the movie, btw, I enjoyed it. The characters just aren't as deep and complex as tumblr tag meta says.

But honestly I do agree with you. The movie is...what? An hour and a half long? How deep are these characters really? I enjoyed the movie a lot for various reasons but I'd never argue that the characters in it are super deep. At least not to the extent Tumblr pretends they are.

That's pretty much tumblr in a nutshell. Gushing paragraphs about how deep and progressive a children's cartoon is are the norm and it gets pretty tedious.

I understand, OP. There's nothing worse to see shitty OOC writing praised like holy writ by all the fans and BNFs. Heck, some of it is still terrible even if it was original fiction.

Not really in the fandom anymore and I unfollowed all those blogs that praised it non stop including the one in this secret, but yeah it was getting really annoying. If I ever do get back into Frozen and Kristanna stuff I'll probably just block all the BNF's outright so I won't have to see their rubbish on my dash.
