I am so sad he is retiring. ;_;

From what he's said, I don't think he's retiring at all; he's bored with the show and wants to do new things, and he's talking about other kinds of TV shows.

And I'm glad, because I adore him and would be very sad if he simply went away.

He's definitely my favorite talk show host. Sad that he's leaving.

He's the only one I'm really sad about.

He's retiring?! Oh god, why? This is terrible.

He is getting 5 million dollars, which is better than a kick in the teeth.

Ferguson was in kind of an odd position. I fucking loved him, and he's definitely the best late-night interviewer out there right now. But I don't think his style would have transferred over to the Late Show timeslot and it would have been hard for him to build mass popularity. His show was so centered around his weirdo, anarchic, oddball, free-wheeling energy, and CBS would not have let him do that stuff outside of the Late Late Show. You also get the impression that he has plenty of other stuff to move on to outside of late-night hosting. It still super sucks that he's retiring though.

I love him and agree he's by far the best of the lot, but I've watched for about seven years and I can't say I'm surprised he's over it. It's felt to me like he's been bored with the show for a while now, and I was sad but not shocked when it turned out that yeah, he's ready to move on.

I'm consoling myself with the thought that, once let out of the confinements of the talk show format, he might do any number of other things I'll love even more.

As much as I love Colbert, I do feel bad for Ferguson, since I can't help but assume from the timing that he gave up his show because he didn't get Letterman's. I just want all these people to be happy! No blame for whoever replaces Ferguson, though. I've heard no suggestion he was forced out.

You may assume it, but Ferguson has come out and said that's not the case, and his retirement was in the works before Letterman announced.

Anonymous, you seem strangely grumpy. I do not understand why this is so bad. For all the things that people say should be negative?

And in any case, a part of the opinion could here be controversial, since many people as like the other two more.

Seconded hard, OP. He is adorable.

(I still remember the first time I saw him - he made a delicious joke about being rear-ended by Orlando Bloom (something like, "and haven't we all had THAT fantasy?"), and I fell in love with him on the spot.

I like him, but he's awful at interviewing women.

He's fine at interviewing women, he just spends too much time complimenting them and being weird/charming instead of actually interviewing them

He's the only talkshow host I like. Conan was good back in the 90s/early aughts when he was on Comedy Central but now he's awful, and the others are terrible. I'm so bummed. Have there been any updates on what he plans to do after Late Late?

+1 to your bonus Chelsea Handler secret. Can't stand her either.

is Handler even in the running or is this just all speculation? I'd love a woman to get his slot but I would take almost anyone over her

I thought he wanted to leave the show. So it's not CBS screwing him over.

I'll miss his shenanigans.

I'm crushed that he's leaving. Given all the pub for and guests from Doctor Who he's on his show, I hope he has Peter Capaldi back on his show before December comes.

I love him so much. I hope he finds something else to do, I don't blame him for being bored. I imagine those types of shows would get boring as hell after awhile.

I was sad about this, too. :( Before Craig, I'd never even bothered watching a talk show. :( Sad to see him go.

It sucks that he's leaving but as long as he has one long ass Scottish Week and brings back the likes of James McAvoy, Gerald Butler, Karen Gillan, Ewan McGreggor and ~~The Doctor~~ Peter Capaldi I'll be happy.
