She wrote fic? I had no idea. I read and enjoyed The Demon's Lexicon but I never finished that series.

I tried to get through the Demon's Lexicon trilogy, but I couldn't. The writing just felt so choppy and I couldn't relate to any of the characters.

Maybe her fic was better.

I started to read the second book but I wasn't a fan of the girl (whose name I can't remember) and she seemed to be the focus of that one. I just lost interest.

Her fic was what got me into fandom. Just before she took it all off line she put it all up in one big PDF. I can't believe I lost that file. I can't believe how long ago that was!

If you want it I'd be happy to upload it, anon.

I'm not anon but if the offer is still open, I'd be interested. I didn't know she wrote fic and would love to see her stuff, because I've really liked her pubbed work. :)

Ah sorry, I forgot about this comment. Here's the file: http://wikisend.com/download/571894/The Complete Works of Maya.pdf

she wrote horrible harry/draco OTT dreck, right? typical.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not a Harry/Draco fan (or even a Draco fan) but I did like some of her fics, especially the one where Draco was sorted into Ravenclaw.

Me too, OP. I read the first book when it came out but couldn't really get into it. The humor I loved so much in her fic seemed really toned down.

I thought she was trying too hard for a Whedonesque snappy-humor vibe, and it fell over flat.

Is that Maya?

Because if so, "If You've a Ready Mind" is probably my favorite fanfic of ever.

I liked the Harry-is-a-Veela one. Took a cliched concept and upended it on its head in a major way, and it made me laugh harder than almost anything else, even if I wasn't on board with the characterization. The woman's humor really slayed it.
