I watched a movie at the cinemas a few months ago (can't remember the name of it, but it starred the guy who played Kirk in the Star Trek reboot), and the main villian was a Commie Russian.

That would presumably have been Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

(And what's doubly weird about the villain is that it's the first Jack Ryan movie not set during the Cold War, or in an alternate universe that diverged from reality in the early 90s....)
