I haven't seen any casting news for the next season, but I doubt they'll sideline Fitz completely. I'm hoping his injury will spark some character change; it's not that I didn't like him, but I can't see his character working long-term. I'd like to see him gain a sense of purpose beyond "hey, look at this cool toy".

Definitely. I hope they'll use his recovery for a cool arc. Since they're at that base for the moment, it would work well.
