(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)I personally think she's one of the best characters. If a rumor is to be believed, when the show was presented to Hasbro or whoever, they demanded a girly pony who likes fashion to be included among the characters. Rarity is just an interesting take on those tropes, I think.

she still is defined by her desire to give and share. Hell, this past season had a lot of that. Season two's best episodes were surrounded by Rarity and her generosity. Season three's one or two episodes were the same.
If there's on character who's "desire" has been blatantly thrown out the window sans the episodes this season, it was fucking Rainbow Dash. The sheer attitude and assholishness she's displayed since season 2 has over shadowed ANY desire for loyalty she's had. Until this season when the writers probably went, "Oh yeah, she's supposed to place her friends and teammates before her desire to win...right...oops."

Then, in another episode, she called them out on their bullshit. Then, when she was training with her team for the Equestria Games, she was torn between joining the Wonderbolts, who basically just wrote off poor Soarin after he was injured, and her team, who she chose in the end because, Wonderbolts or not, her team was giving their all and she saw that and respected that. Her team that was made up of Fluttershy, Bulk Biceps, herself, and Ditzy Doo as a stand in should they need her. SHE was treated like a respected team member, WAY differently than how Dash treated her in the unfortunate episode with Ditzy Doo's introduction.
She's been representing her specific aspect thing far more this season than she has been in teh past two, which is nice change. Though she can still be a bit mean, what woth calling Twilight an egg head and such, but it comes off as more of a playful thing this time around than an actually insult. Unless she's being pressured really badly. There was one episode where she needed to take the exam for the Wonderbolts (she still admires them despite bringing Spitfire down a peg or two) and she doesn't learn the way they do, especially Twilight's way. So all of them made a huge review for her using visuals on the ground cause Dash ALWAYS picks up on things as she flies around, whether she notices or not.
Anywho, I've rambled enough, need to eat dinner. Hope this helps!!
