Everything's on Fire

(Anonymous) 2014-05-14 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm in San Diego, and I think we're up to 8 fires in the past 2 days, all of which are still burning.

Fortunately for me, they're all at least 10 or 15 miles north of me, so I'm not in any danger. But it's still unnerving, and several friends have had to evacuate either work or homes. The shots of 3+ different smoke plumes are both really cool, and terrifying. And it's only May.

Anyone else in the area? Or near the LA area fires I've been hearing about?

It's weird because we just had rain last week. Some of these have to be arson.

Same anon.

Just had an evacuation scare but the fire's been put out. :/ I don't know how to feel right now.

Stay safe, San Diego anon! I'm in LA, but not near any of the fires (Valley). I was concerned as my sister is in Lompoc (SB county), which was on fire yesterday. She's fine, just crappy air quality.

I live in Los Angeles, West L.A./Santa Monica in particular. I've been hearing about the fires, but I haven't seen any around here, yet. We've actually been conspicuously fire-free for a while, now, which is unusual even for this time of year. It makes me worried we're going to get hit twice as hard next fire season.

I'm just worried because it's so early in the year. I'm kind of hoping when they get the fires out, those areas will be safe from a repeat performance in, say, July through October. And I really hope we don't have a repeat of 2003, where it was raining ash all the way down the coast and they actually shut a lot of the city down because the air quality was so bad. If it does get that bad, it'll be nastier than 2003 because rainy season's basically over for the year, so none of this'll get washed away until late fall/winter, when or if we get a good rainstorm, and even then we'll probably get mudslides.
