Depends how plausible the breakup is for me. Harry/Ginny? dude, who cares. But the movies were pretty convincing on pepper/tony, so if she's not included I'm a hard sell...

I agree.

Threesomes with a basis of existing Pepper/Tony are wonderfully satisfying (as long as Pepper is convincingly okay with it). I would not say the same about Harry/Ginny.

Ah, this is a good point. Yes, I'm this way too. If the couple is a vital aspect I want to know how they broke up and why. (In the case of Pepper/Tony, I don't read fics where they're broken up because I like them together so much).

Ha, I am still so salty about Harry/Ginny. When I read Matching-Muff Matrimony, it won me over with the nearly off-hand mention in the beginning of Ginny dumping Harry on his ass to make a clear (stumbly) path for Ginny/Pansy.

I read that! It was absolutely fantastic. Laugh out loud funny from the start. Thank you so much for the rec, in case I forgot to say at the time.

You weren't? It must be a cold stone fandom classic then, that I'd somehow missed until last month.

I'm tickled by the same thing.
An old H/D favourite of mine starts like that, and Ginny is barely even in the fic, but the fact that she's an astronaut is easily my favourite thing about it. I never understood Ginny hate! I prefer her in femslash, but not to keep her out of my precious slash pairings or anything.

Ginny hate is weird for sure, although I guess I get it for people who felt blindsided or thought their other ships were burnt. I was just upset that there was a lot of lost potential for a girl who got out of the hero worship and over a crush, just to end up as a kind of oedipal trophy Harry gets (save the world, get the girl who looks like your mom). There was room to be fleshed out, but ah well.

OP: How the fuck does everybody knows this was about Pepper and Tony? But yes, I suppose I agree, there is canon pairings where half of the love interest should be hit by a piano within the first paragraph.

I guess the lack of Pepper is a universal complaint?? In a big ship like steve/tony, which for reasons unknown is popular enough that it's often a background pairing, there are a whole fucking lot of inept attempts to write a major part of tony's life out of the picture...
Most of the time I'm annoyed by love interests disappearing on principle, not as much because I have a hard time buying the character without them.

Yes, the lack/bashing of Pepper is very much a universal complaint, especially with Steve/Tony fic, but it shows up plenty in Loki/Tony and Bruce/Tony fic. You should see the rants about this shit on Tumblr.

The Pepper/Tony relationship didn't convince me at all, though, and I keep shaking my head and not getting it. And my developed dislike for Pepper doesn't help in that regard, either. So I would be totally fine with writers completely ignoring her or only mention her in passing.
