tuesday night was a good night for tv

[personal profile] rubbertea 2014-05-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
agents of shield was better than i expected. this show has really improved in the last six episodes or so (besides that cringe-worthy cellist storyline). it still doesn't completely make up for the mediocre start, but at least it can only go up from here. the action scenes are still a bit awkward though.

fargo was excellent, as usual. this show is so smart, i feel like i'm a better person just from watching it. i can't decide what monologues i like best: the "rich man who gave everything" one or the "romans are wolves" one. in any case, it was really nice seeing more of gus; he's a very interesting, unusual character.

person of interest was so great. holy shit. i mean, holy mother of god. that was one hell of a finale. it completely turned the show upside down, in every way: world, premise, even format. it was absolutely heartwrenching. beautifully written and masterfully acted. someone give everyone an emmy. everyone. and fucking radiohead at the end. one of my favorite bands, too! the feels, man, the feels.

POI is how you make a great finale. I love how everyone falls into moral greys in this show, but Carter and Greer are the two fall in the white and black zones respectively. Fucking Greer. Fuck that guy fuck him—ahhhhh that bad end was so good for me! ♥

I just wish more shows actually pulled the long-term consequences of choices (or inaction) as well as this.

Also, this entire season has been wonderful for my Root/Shaw shippery. So much flirty Root all of the time.

yeah, i feel like other shows could learn a few things from this season of poi. it's been a wild ride from start to end.
fucking greer, man. he's so vicious, but so cool. he's got some really fascinating lines. i mean, "you really thought this was a democracy?", delivered with that smug smile of his.. chills, man!

so many great root/shaw moments in this ep! shaw cares, awww. and then "i'll do yours if you do mine". damn, girls.
i'm also a reese/finch shipper, and i loved their last scene in the library before all hell broke loose. "i tried, but some jackass told me i needed a purpose" killed me. so bittersweet.

I haven't loved to hate a character so much in a while, and it certainly helps that he has a weird humour about him that makes him fun to watch. Chuckling during the sidelines of the Vigilance trial what dick.

Ah, and Vigilance, man. Collier was one scary and driven dude all season, but his back story and him finding out he was just Greer's tool? Oh wow I was feeling so hard for him D:

I think my favourite moment that defines the pair for me was when Root kind of kidnaps Shaw to be her reluctant assistant, the one where they're in the sewers, and Root is stuck between a grate and a bad guy. The look on her face when Shaw saves her is like, "You came for me! You really do care!" and it looks like she's about to hug her, but then Shaw just punches her in the face.
That's. That's perfect for me.

Also, never forget the Rinch nod at the gala o7

I loved SHIELD a lot and am very pleased with how the season ended. The last half of the season was great and far exceeded my expectations.

Haven't watched Fargo yet, but every episode so far has been excellent and pretty much perfect. It's probably my favorite new show in quite a while.

And I actually just caught up with Person of Interest in time for the finale, and boy was I happy. I did not think I was going to be that blown away by it, but boy did they shake things up. I want the show to be back on the air already because I want to know how the hell TPTB are going to fix things! (And they have to fix things. Anything else would be unthinkable. What happened at the end of the episode absolutely terrified me in a way few things have. Shit.)

terrifying is the word. that root monologue was chilling, and having radiohead's 'exit music for a film' in the background was a really really good idea.
i'm hoping it won't take the whole of season four for the team to get back together, because idk if i could handle it. and the way they're forced to become somebody else in order to stay alive... god, that's just depressing. i'm gonna need a lot of fix-it fics to get through the summer.

NGL, I spent the entire episode thinking, "Oh, Vigilance is going to be shut down or destroyed by the end of this episode. That's how shit works. No need to worry. Reese will rescue his beloved Finch and Shaw and Root will flirt some more and it'll be good."

Pretty sure my mouth was hanging open during the finale minutes; I couldn't believe they had broken the team apart or that everyone was fucked. It was an insane ending full of heartbreak, shock and distress. lmao.

Oh, and I hope they don't stay apart for most of next season either. Not even sure how that would work unless maybe every episode is centered around one character and the new people in their lives. That would get depressing quickly, I think.

Do you think at this point Reese and Finch wish for the good old days of corrupt cops and mob bosses? Ahhh, such quiet times.

Now they have to deal with an AI worship cult that has the eyes and ears of everything with a electronic pulse. Who saw that coming?

haha yeah, the time where HR was the biggest threat seems like several seasons away, but it was like 12 episodes ago. it's crazy how the stakes have changed in just half a season.
i certainly didn't see that coming, but i completely welcome it. i'm so glad and surprised that there's a hardcore science fiction show on tv (network tv, no less). the way jonah and greg made us believe the show was going to be a crime procedural is masterful, really. poor cbs executives; i hope they're not too weirded out.

The menacing AI that the POI team just barely gets to slide under the notice of jfc.

Yeah, remember when Elias taking over the NY gang scene and scuffling with HR was the big thing and stuff?

I haven't gotten around to watching Fargo yet, I guess I've kind of been waiting for a couple of friends of mine to do so to see if they like it (we basically have the exact same tastes in things) before committing myself, but I'm hearing nothing but glowing reviews for it from practically everywhere. As someone that really really loved the movie, will I love this show? I might just go ahead and start watching it.

the show really deserves the praise it's getting. it has a very unique and dark tone that rubs some people the wrong way, but i love it.
idk if you know this, but the show has different characters and storylines from the movie (it's not just the movie in tv format). i've never seen the movie myself, but people who have said that many aspects of it are referenced in the show.

I just saw the finale for Agents of Shield and OMG TEARS ALL OVER MY FACE; this show had better not pull a Whedon and make me love a certain relationship with the fire of 100 suns only to DESTROY IT MERCILESSLY FOR NO REASON. I really hope that's not what's happening. :( :( :(

Anyway, I liked it. Putting "Special Guest Star Samuel L. Jackson" in the opening credits was a tiny bit of a spoiler, but I was ok with that. And. . . and but Phil, you ARE an Avenger! ;_; I feel stupid for getting a little choked up at that but WAIT NO I DON'T.

I haven't seen the others, but they sound good!

Are you talking about FitzSimmons? I'm curious!

Re: tuesday night was a good night for tv

(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I am! I don't actually ship them particularly strongly, but they are the best friends ever and the SCENE in the shipping-container thing killed me with emotions, and if Fitz dies or has irreparable brain damage and is wheeled out of the show, I will be very crushed and Simmons will be crushed and I do not want Simmons to be sad ever :(

I figured that was it! Ugh, their scenes together were agonizing. (In the best possible way.)

I want them back together doing science and joking with each other. I can't even imagine the show without those two; they seem like two halves of the same soul or something.

I'm kind of worried about him having irreparable brain damage, not so much killing him off. I don't think the show would outright kill him, but I do almost feel like they might keep him around but not even remotely the same. Which scares me. DNW this AOS!

It'll probably turn out okay, though. This is Marvel, they can find some magical cure to his problems.

Re: tuesday night was a good night for tv

(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I hope there is good Marvel magic ahead to dispel the bad heart-stabbing magic.

I might even actually be ok with like, a quarter-season of recovery from reparable damage, with lots of help and sandwiches and support from Simmons and the rest of the team, and Fitz having to move slowly and re-learn some things but NOT suffering permanent personality change or memory loss. Skye could assume the role of welcoming insider and May (and her mom??) could engage in a little stealth empathy and Simmons would be by his side through everything and Trip would help her cope.

Ugh, indeed. I was not prepared for this season to end without knowing what's going to happen to Fitz.

Agents of Shield finale was all right. I was on the verge of dropping the show at the beginning of the season but it managed to pull itself at least partway out of the muck. Hopefully season two will continue to improve. I kinda wish Ward had died though. I'm worried they'll try to pull a redemption arc on him now and I still kinda don't care about him or his stupid romance with Skye at all. My favorite Ward scene all season was May kicking his ass.

Person of Interest finale was amazing in all ways. I'm really interested to see where they go with this next season. And also so happy that no more main characters died, because season finales always make me nervous like that.

Re: tuesday night was a good night for tv

(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like Ward to be redeemed in kind of an abstract way because I like redemption, but I'd like it to happen far offstage, in prison, away from the characters I actually care about.
