Re: Cat Saves Owner's Son From Dog Attack

Amazing cat. Man, this video, like all videos, got a lot of people making assumptions without bothering to read the actual story of what happened. Like why the mom left for a few seconds, etc.

I heard the dog is probably going to be put to sleep, which I feel kind of bad about. I don't like animals being "punished" since I don't think we can rightfully hold an animal accountable for their actions. But if the owners can't control the dog, either keeping it contained or training it, I guess it can't be helped - apparently they had had warnings before about the dog getting loose. Apparently the dog is only like 8 months old, though, kind of sad that a puppy could be that aggressive - but then again, I don't know much about dogs, I'm a cat person.

Sort of looks like a pitbull. They probably didn't train it well, you really need to make young dogs understand that biting toys is okay but people isn't.

The snout's off for it to be a pitbull and it'd need a thicker build.

Yeah, I don't think that dog's a pitbull, though it might be a mix- the shout is too long, like the above anon said, and pit bells are a lot stockier. Plus, don't pit bulls have shorter tails?

Docking's pretty common, but it *might* be uncut.

The news article I read said it was actually a Labrador-Chow mix.

Not really, but some news sources will probably say that it's one anyway, just to feed into anti-pitbull hysteria.

Any dog that attacks unprovoked like that needs to be put down, period. It's one thing if the dog was protecting food or a toy or its yard or if the kid had been harassing it, but for the dog to deliberately charge that kid and bite it the way it did? That's a dangerous animal.

The dog came over to attack the kid in his own yard. I really don't get how people can defend the dog, either.

That dog's behavior was very very wrong. I've never seen anything like it. I've worked with a lot dogs, including damaged dogs. That dog was not biting that child because it was scared, playing, or aggressive. That was pure predatory behavior, and I've never heard or seen of something like that in my life. It also bit its owners. It's a young dog, so it likely doesn't have any mental illness. I rarely say this, but that dog should absolutely be put down. Something is wrong with it that I don't think training could fix.

I love how a bunch of the youtube comments are blaming pit bulls, when that is clearly not a pit. I'm glad the media has jumped on "the vicious pit bull" train.

On a lighter note, that cat is awesome! What a great animal.

Yeah, I assumed if the attack was out of aggression it wouldn't have been scared off by the cat, right? It would have switched targets? It didn't look like a bite, either, it looks like the dog took off some flesh....
