When I was 16 I was in a car accident on Christmas Eve (speeding guy ran a red light and broadsided me just behind the driver's side door, sending my car spinning 180 degreees and into a huge snowbank.) My parents basically groused about the car -- I still remember them saying " But if you hadn't accelerated when you saw him coming it would have been more clearly his fault!" (and um, yeah, if I hadn't stomped the gass I might have been in the hospital or dead.)

I was so upset and hurt by their reaction that I drank half a bottle of liquor that was stored in a high cabinet above the washing machine (neither parent drank, the booze was for "company." I passed out on the couch.

Woke up Christmas morning with both me and the couch caked in vomit ... and NO ONE SAID A WORD about it, ever.
