I'm also stuck on how cumbersome it must be for the males to fly; they look like a toddler in their grandmother's oversized trenchcoat, flying.

I had never seen an image of one flying before, let along a gif. Those things are actually majestic when they fly.
Also there are free-roaming peacocks at the zoo near me and if I don't coax one of them to eat crackers from my hand I consider it an unsuccessful zoo visit
