I feel really dumb

(Anonymous) 2014-05-15 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
but my birthday is coming up, and my Dad and I have had plans for a really long time, since it's a significant birthday, so I was really getting excited, and making plans for how I was going to get down to my home town for my birthday, so I could actually celebrate my birthday on the day of for once.

Then my dad sends me a video link that I have to watch before I come down- the weekend after- and my brother just happens to find out about a midterm that he has on my birthday, and I feel like their planning something, which is great and all, but...

I still feel kind of bad that I don't get to celebrate my birthday on my actual birthday, and I know it's really stupid, because I still get to celebrate it! But I've been looking forward to it for a couple years now, so even the tiny change in schedule is making me feel kind of bad, even though I know that it's really dumb to feel bad.

I just needed to tell someone, even though I know it's a stupid thing to have bugging me.

That's the kind of thing that would really disappoint me, so don't worry about feeling bummed. I hope your celebrations are happy enough to make up for the timing!

If it makes you feel better, I have never, not once, ever celebrated my birthday on my real birthday. You'll be fine.

If you don't feel comfortable answering, that's cool, but...does this mean that you, like me, happen to share your birthday with a major holiday?

Nothing major, no.

Aw, shucks. No sort-of-maybe-vaguely-birthday-twinning for me.

I understand how that would disappoint you - but if you get yo do it still (but on another day) - it can still be awesome, right?

I hope so! The video my dad sent me has me intrigued. :)

If you aren't getting your party on your birthday, use that day to see how much free stuff you can get because is the day of your birth. That way, the party can feel like getting a second celebration in a week.

I know if you sign up with Godiva, you get a ten dollar coupon toward anything you want over ten bucks. Even if that thing is $10.01. Same thing with World Market. Sign up with them and get the same coupon. You get a free make up gift if you sign up with Sephora. And if there's a Gigi's cupcake place, you get a free birthday cupcake for signing with them.

I do have a Sephora card, but the nearest one is a bit far away. Maybe I can order a raincheck coupon?

Thanks! That sounds kind of fun! :)

Sorry anon, that's unfortunate. (And I do understand feeling bad about it.) However...at least your family is still planning something? They clearly seem to care about you and want to make you happy. Maybe do something by yourself or with friends on your actual birthday, something that will make you happy, then you can celebrate again with your family later. It'll be like having two birthdays!

I hadn't thought of that, I might see if I can rope some friends into seeing Godzilla. Thank you. :)

Ooo, Godzilla. Sounds like it would be a nice birthday! Maybe you could go out to eat as well? Or go shopping and treat yourself to a little something you've been wanting for a while?

I can understand it bugging you, particularly if it's a major birthday. Do you know how much it pisses me off that I didn't get to go out drinking on my 21st birthday? It's totally ridiculous, because it's not like I couldn't drink at any other time, but I still think back and I'm like "WTF man?"

Your feelings are perfectly valid.

That said, the celebration of your birthday can still be (and, from what you've written, probably will be) really special. Try to focus on that. And use your actual birthday as a day to pamper the crap out of yourself!

Yeah, it's actually my 21st birthday, so that's why...

But you're write, and I think I will just stay home on my birthday and do the pampering thing. :)
