I can kind of buy him getting through Academy, simply because he would have tested very well, but yeah, I don't understand him moving up the chain at all. Someone would've/should've pulled him aside long before he got to Lt.

You would think they run other kinds of tests, like stress tests. Remember Wesley's entrance exam? They stress tested him before he was accepted. I kind of want to headcanon something happening after academy that affected Barclay so deeply and pushed his awkward and nervous personality to the extreme.

I had actually completely forgotten Wesley's entrance exam. Damn you and your making me want to re-watch things.

That is a good point, in any case. Any way you slice it, it just doesn't make sense that he was in the position he was in.

The only reason I remembered it is because I was thinking about the Kobayashi Maru and wondering what other stress tests there might be and then I was like OH YEAH THE ENTRANCE EXAM. I've been kind of wanting to rewatch TNG just because it's not sad for the most part. Babylon 5 is hurting me.
