I feel you, OP. I'm in a very small fandom and there's also a clique of a handful of people who talk a lot in private (which is of course their right, not like they have to share everything), but I have a feeling they use that privacy to talk shit about me and the other fan who's not part of that clique, mostly because we ship one pairing that this clique can't stand (they never say explicitly that they hate it, but they always make vague comments about their "notp" and how OOC it is and there aren't that many ships in this fandom). Except they're very friendly to my face and I don't want to be the one to start fandom drama. That kind of thing sucks so much in a small fandom. In a big fandom you can just look for other people to talk to, but when there ARE no other people who are interested in this fandom, you're stuck with what you have.

I say you should start some social cliques of your own. Several small ones with 2-3 members each. Use those social cliques to sow discord and discontent in the fandom and watch them turn on each other!

OP I really know how you feel. One thing I'd say though, as difficult as it feels, cliques happen all through life, in school, and at work, even within families and friendship groups. I'm old enough to have seen it many times. Also I've been in the clique many times, and when you are in it I think you basically just feel that you connect better within this sub group of people. In my case it's been when someone outside the group has said something that I've realised I'm in that clique and that others have noticed it. Even then though, I've realised that there are times when I won't be, and as sucky as it is, it's all swings and roundabouts. Sometimes we just get on better with a few people within a big group, I find this especially in the work place.

Still even then I can feel a bit sad and lonely when I see a group of friends tagging each other into a meal or drink on Facebook that I've not been invited to, and I often see people commenting that they've not been invited to things, I don't say anything because I think it's just something that happens, and I know I never post about where I am or who with for exactly that reason, I don't want anyone feeling hurt that they aren't included.

Sorry for rambling, I guess it's just a thing in life I often think about, having been on both sides and still not really knowing how to feel when I'm the excluded one.
