I probably sound dumb but I still don't totally get Tumblr. I pretty much only signed up so the annoying tiled layout would go away, and I don't really follow anything other than 5 blogs (at least I think that's how many it makes you pick when you first sign up). I think it would make more sense to follow a tag than a blog (since the few blogs I do follow post about some random stuff I'm not interested in) but I'm pretty sure you can't do that. One of these days I'll get around to figuring out how it all works.

So you can't exactly follow a tag, but you can track it, and it'll show up on the side and let you know when there are new posts in the tag.
And it's really hard to find new blogs to follow on tumblr, there's not really an intuitive way to search for them, but there are usually blogs dedicated solely to any interest or fandom, so if you're just looking for one thing in particular it's definitely possible to find!
