Re: Elementary Season 2 Finale

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Weeeeeeeell, I've been avoiding fandom for most of this season, so I don't really know what the general consensus has been, though I gather most people are disappointed in the finale. As am I.

I actually really enjoyed the last few episodes with Mycroft. I really like Elementary's version of him, and I like his and Joan's relationship and how petulant it makes Holmes. Though I really shouldn't have been I was actually surprised by the revelation that Mycroft was MI6. I felt that the preceding episodes built a lot of awesome momentum for the finale, and I was really looking forward to it.

And - it fell so flat. The way they framed Sheridan being the mole as some kind of surprise seemed almost insulting to the viewer. And there were some lovely individual bits, mostly courtesy JLM's acting - like his final plea for Joan to stay in the Brownstone and his vow to Mycroft to fix everything - but in general, it was lacklustre and anti-climactic.

As for next season, I am not looking forward to Sherlock relapsing, especially it it essentially emotionally blackmails Joan into staying. That would be tedious and I assume will take up a lot of the season. What I am looking forward to, however, is Sherlock working with MI6, because of the interesting cases he might be involved in (I think I am a rare viewer who actually enjoys the case-based filler episodes, if it's an intriguing mystery, more than the plot and character advancing eps).

I'd also like to see Joan having fun in her own apartment, and maybe meeting her Mr Mary Morstan. Oh, and I want more Mycroft. You can never have enough Mycroft. <3
