Yep! They are. I think that's confirmed by now, if little-known? It's pretty heavily implied throughout the books anyway.

It's implied that you can choose if you feel really strongly. I may value loyalty above most other traits (that and active empathy), but I know that I don't embody that often. Hufflepuff is the house my best self would be sorted in. Slytherin is the house my average self would be sorted in.

So basically, you understand what morality is and why it is important perfectly well, but you just don't give a shit.

That's 1000 times worse than being a shithead but convinced the stuff you do is okay. That would just mean you were woefully misguided. But you? You are literally evil.
