Fandom is mostly good about it, but the insistence of the media that Bucky is a villain drives me up the wall. Like half the interviews with Sebastian Stan I've watched had the interviewer going SO HOW'S IT FEEL TO BE MARVEL'S NEW COOLEST VILLAIN??? and I just wanted to shake them. The movie features a scene that explicitly shows that Bucky's had all his agency and choices stripped from him, brutally and literally, and you come out of it calling him a villain? Bless Stan for being a massive Bucky fan and attempting to educate his interviewers on that.

It bothers me too. I guess most of them haven't done enough (or any, lol) research, but if you think Bucky is a villain then you've completely missed the point of the movie. (Granted, I'm sure the majority of them HAVEN'T seen the film but it would be pretty easy to find out what happened to him. If you still see him as a villain after watching Winter Soldier then THE FUCK?!)

And if we're talking about Loki and Bucky, Loki did everything with full awareness and freedom of choice. He had other options, Bucky was wiped clean, a tool with no real understanding of what he's ordered to do. It's a totally different situation.

OP

ugh, don't even get me started. but i loved sebastian's response--that he didn't think of the winter soldier as a villain, but as a threat. (and you could see in some of the other interviews that he was just so. done. with those types of questions.) so, yeah, as you said. god bless sebastian and his bucky-loving heart.
