I relate to this.

I also relate to this. For me, gameplay always wins over graphics.

I have a condition that affects how I process what I see and I find too much visual information unpleasant.

Too realistic game characters look creepy to me.

Sometimes I like to indulge in old-school gaming, such as Castelvania, old Final Fantasy and Diablo, though I appreciate video interaptions which help the mood and feed my imagination. I feel that in many recent games hd graphics are achieved at the expense of gameplay.

Yeah, I can get this feeling. I mean I wouldn't say that I can't get lost in the newer games with nice graphics, but I think there's something dreamy and wonderful about playing a game with simple sprite graphics and getting to fill in the blanks with your mind.

I love what graphics can do these days, but it's a BONUS to me. All the pretty in the world can substitute for a good plot.

I sympathize so much, OP. I can't play games with "good graphics" at all because my visual processing is a disaster. I love clean, cartoony stuff (Legend of Zelda: A Link To the Past for the SNES was my favorite game of all time) but anything 3D or "realistic" is just a pile of headaches as far as my brain is concerned.
