Hell of a lot smarter than Ep I-III. Not that that bar's particularly high, but still.

I dunno... you ever read the 'Jedi Prince'/Glove of Darth Vader stories?

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
No, and now I'm terrified.

All you need to know about the 'Jedi Prince' series...

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2014-05-18 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
... Can be found here.

I'll admit, it's kind of unfair to say it's worse than at least 'Phantom Menace' since the 'Jedi Prince' series was intended for kids... but it really, really is. It's only really worth it for the Karl Kesel illustrations, but that's probably being too generous to the series imho. D;

p.s. MOFFRENCE.

p.p.s. Topless Robot sums it up far better than I ever could.

...I have, but now I can't remember anything about it aside from the titles. I'm going to have to look this up now...

Other acceptable answers include Planet of Twilight and The Crystal Star

oh god The Crystal Star

Splinter of the Mind's Eye if you happen to read it after watching the Original Trilogy.

Ugh. That was horrible. C3PO running up shouting about Han being a prince so therefore he can court Leia... And wasn't that the one where Han shouts "Not my teeth!" to make some kind of murderous, evil telekenetic witch explode his teeth one by one to kill time while he waited for help to arrive?

Aw. I didn't think that one was so bad. But I loved all the old post-ROTJ books, even the most cheesy. They had a certain charm to them.

At least they stuck to the spirit of the OT. The dark and grim later stuff- NJO and post- was worse.

Death Troopers. Basically horrible zombie fanfic of the Star Wars universe with Han and Chewy thrown in in an attempt to make it more legitimate.

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2014-05-18 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Yanno, when I first heard of 'Death Troopers', I never understood why the Star Wars EU needed zombies, when they've got a perfectly good substitute in the form of the rakghouls from the KOTOR/TOR games. They're not undead per se, but they do function somewhat similarly to zombies in a very basic sense.

(Well, I *think* the rakghouls were p. much eradicated by the time the movies came around, but I wanna say they appeared in the 'Legacy' comic. Not 100% sure...)

No discussion of terrible horror stuff in the Star Wars universe can be complete without mentioning Galaxy of Fear

actually I kind of liked Galaxy of Fear, probably because I was like 7 or 8 when they all came out. That one set in a space station? That was kinda freaky.

[personal profile] ex_mek82 2014-05-18 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah man, someone else who remembers Galaxy of Fear! In hindsight, it was kinda silly (like meeting Yoda before he met Luke)... but still way better than the 'Jedi Prince' series. I'm surprised Tash didn't cameo or something in one of the New Jedi Order books, since I think she later went on to become a Jedi at some point. (Maybe? I'm not 100% sure)

Also, Dash Rendar appeared in one of the books, and as I liked 'Shadows of the Empire', that was kinda cool. Hehe.
