I can't help disliking people if their voices annoy me. I know that you can't exactly change your voice and most people also often don't notice their own tone of voice (if you're used to speaking a certain way and just don't know that your tone of voice sounds terribly conceited for example) and if I get to know those people better, I can usually overlook it. But it's really hard to make a good impression on me if your voice annoys me.

And at the same time I have heard recordings of my own voice and I'm pretty sure that, based on my standards, I would probably hate myself if I heard myself talking the way other people hear me.

Everybody hates their own voice if they listen to a recording of it. Seriously.

Yep. I've had several guys tell me I have a sexy voice but every time I hear myself I go "what the hell are they talking about?"

I know, I know. But I guess it's still a bit different when you're as ... eh, obsessed about voices as I am. The thought that my voice sounds like something I would hate makes me really uncomfortable.
But yeah, everyone is at least weirded out by recordings of their own voice, true.

I don't hate my recorded voice, I just get boggled by how different I sound.

I do the same thing. It's really stupid, but there's a certain tone that just really grates on my ears and triggers this innate annoyance, and sometimes it's hard to look past it.
