What I found truly fascinating is that Russia ended up giving Austria 5 points...largely due to televoting, too, where Conchita got the third most votes; the Russian judges were less enthusiastic and ranked her eleventh. And Belarus, the other country that made a stink about her inclusion in Eurovision, had a comparable televoter response, giving Conchita the fourth most votes; the Belarusian judges were a lot harsher, though, so Belarus didn't end up giving Austria any points.

So either there are a lot more Russian and Belarusian LGBT-supporters than one might have imagined, or the Russian and Belarusian voters were just so blown away by Conchita's performance that they couldn't help but vote for her regardless of any prejudices they might hold, or both.
