Wandering the Wilds of Fandom

(Anonymous) 2014-05-17 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
There are days when I marvel at the internet. Truly. Fandom has opened my eyes to so many things, but there are days when I just ...

You ever have one of those days when you're just randomly browsing one of your smaller fandoms for a good AU, and you come across something that starts out relatively normally, but within five chapters has turned into the kind of bizarre, semi-historically-acurate mpreg porno that a junior Witchfinder would stuff into the binding of his copy of the Malleus Maleficarum? I'm talking third nipples, Devil's milk, and men cursed with vaginas, over here.

There are times, days at a stretch, when fandom almost seems sane. And then I'm forced to remember that no, no it really isn't.

That seems pretty specific.

It was a specific fic, yes. If it's a genre of fic, this is the first sample I've come across. I wasn't aware there was a market for Witchfinder pornos, but judging by the kudos, apparently so.

I've never found anything quite like that that (I hope you're citing a real example anyway because the fic sounds incredible) but yes, I do have those times when I sit back and just think "wow, for better or worse, fandom is truly astounding".

Yes, real fic. I only made it about seven chapters in, I was just not in the right frame of mind to appreciate 18th century witchfinding pornography, but it definitely made an impression.

Fandom. You think you've seen it all, and then ... not even remotely.

Kazoo meet-ups and societies are what got me.

Also anime rap mashups existing and sometimes being listenable.

What's a kazoo? Those weird swizzle/whistle things?

You got it!

Many a time. And on the contrary, I usually think, 'yes, fandom is batshit, but that's the way I like it.'
