I can deal with torture fics, but the ones that have torture just so they can have woobylicious comfort afterwards just make me vomit.

No! No more hurt/comfort with hot chocolate and marshmallows, and diddums, and owies, and backrubs, and gazing after his tortured soul, with everyone regressing to the mental age of eight, and go fuck off and read a Twilight novel instead. I am just sick of all of those fics.

But- but do you prefer pointless angst, then??? I don't have anything against it, but in my experience torture porn leads either to fluff or to OTT drama. And the latter is, in its essence, the same kind of thing as the former. Neither of them further the plot or enhance the characterization.

In fact, torture porn fic authors don't even have characterization or plot in mind when writing the stuff. So in the context of a torture porn fic discussion "[fic genre] is pointless and trope-y" sounds like an odd complaint to make.

Do I prefer pointless angst to hurt/comfort? Yes.

Do I actually enjoy pointless angst and torture? Not really, just it is preferable to h/c. In the same way that having your foot chopped off is preferable to having your entire leg chopped off. Neither prospect is exactly thrilling, just one is less bad than the other.
