This is why I don't believe that genderqueers/agenders/bigenders are a legit thing.

I know it's an unpopular opinion but to me transsexualism is a medical condition, a different mapping of your brain that produces extreme dysphoria and discomfort. Every MtF or FtM person I've met desired nothing more but be stealthy and transition to their true gender while flying under the radar while genderqueers are mostly people who cannot fathom that you don't have to adhere to gender roles all of the time and liking androgynous looks doesn't make you trans. This actually reinforces gender roles and trivializes the issues of people who were truly born in the wrong body.

I'm uncomfortable calling myself a woman, on an instinctive level that I'm sure has nothing to do with gender roles (I'm as feminine as they come and I've grown up surrounded by adults who made sure all us kids and teenagers were aware that women and men were equal in every important way), but I know I wouldn't feel any better as a man. Maybe a lot of so-called genderqueers are like that, but some of us are real.

I see and I didn't mean to be rude, I'm so embarrassed this post went out in the open. Can you help me understand better? If you are fine in your body why do you need a label?

Personally, I actively seek out the most accurate labels for myself because I often feel overwhelmed and disorganized. If I'm just...me, with thousands of words of description for every aspect, I'm a messy room strewn with all manner of stuff. Finding a label that fits me is like cleaning that room (except much less boring) -- it's still the same, I have all the same papers and items and everything, but it's easier to access and retrieve, since I know where it all is. I don't have to search the entire room for, say, a pair of scissors; I only have to search in the office supply drawer.

It's not a perfect analogy, but I guess that's the best way of explaining the feeling. Labels help me organize my mind.

Obligatory disclaimer: I only speak for myself, and other people's reasons for using or not using labels are often different.

This is a fantastic description for why people want labels. I would like to use this in my classroom, when people ask these kinds of questions.
