Depends on the state. I do believe in NY you can be put on the sex offender registry if your caught and convicted for peeing on the sidewalk.

Which is why as much as I like the sex offender registry, there definitely needs to be an overhaul and a redefinition of what and who precisely belongs on there, because A)there's a world of difference between a child molestor and somebody who ended up there because they sexted naughty pictures of themselves to their boyfriend in high school, or relieved themselves on a sidewalk in which case B)some states do not specify why somebody ends up on a sex offender registry in the first place which can lead to some serious problems and even danger for those who ended up it because of a moment's stupidity that had nigh malicious intent.

Wow, that's...yeah. I totally agree. You don't belong on the sex offender registry for peeing on a sidewalk. You should get in trouble for that, but not that kind of trouble. It also kinda waters down the whole thing, if you think about it. Being a sex offender is srs bsns, and it should indicate someone who is actually dangerous, not someone who might be because they decided to broaden the definition too much.
