favorite season finales?

may's the month of finales, right? so i figured it would make a good thread. anyway, here's my top five:

#1: lost, season 3, through the looking glass: "we have to go back"! not penny's boat! this one had everything. "holy shit" moments, emotional turmoil, memorable one-liners, major character death (and how!), heartwrenching music... the finale to end all finales.

#2: person of interest, season 3, deus ex machina: a big pile of classic nolan action, smart dialogue that touches on hot and sensitive topics, and very important changes for the way the show works. also, an ending that tears your heart out and stomps on it, making great use of radiohead's 'exit music (for a film)'.

#3: breaking bad, season 4, face off: "i am the one who knocks!" what an ending. the best example of a wham episode i can think of. the whole thing just escalates into an explosion of tension and violence. it's just awesome.

#4: breaking bad, season 5, felina: now that's how you tie up loose ends. take note, showrunners! (*cough*darlton*cough*)

#5: house, season 4, wilson's heart: this show isn't even one of my favorites (though i do like it), but this episode, along with the one before it, still managed to break my heart. even though i was satisfied with the ending of the show, this would've made a great series finale.

All of Breaking Bad's. Season 4 of Supernatural was awesome.

The season 5 Babylon 5 finale, because it made me cry buckets; 45 minutes of pure feelings.

I really liked the TNG season finale that had Picard assimilated into the Borg. Can't remember the season number or episode name because I'm forgetful like that.

"Best of Both Worlds, Part 1." End of Season 3 -- no resolution until Season 4. I marathon-watched TNG, but I felt the pain of everyone who had to watch it as it aired -- and then WAIT for Season 4 to start. D:

That's the one!! Argh yes. I only had to wait a day for it (I watched it as it aired on the SyFy channel) and I was on the edge of my seat until the next day.

I watched it as it aired. How they'd resolve it was pretty much all my sister and I talked about the whole summer.

The finale of Leverage is actually my favourite episode in the entire series. It was amazing and it was a brilliant contrast to the pilot. No spoilers because I know some people still plan to watch it but it's definitely worth it.

I liked the ending of Supernatural's season 5 finale. The stuff before that was kind of meh but I liked the bittersweet ending.

the season 5 ending of spn was the perfect ending for the series. for me, watching episodes from season 6/7/8/9 feels off somehow. like i'm watching au fanfic? idk, but it feels weird.

Yeah, that's pretty much how I felt. I watched season six very dispassionately, no praise, no criticism, no metas. I tried to watch out of loyalty for a while but the show makes it hard so I stopped after s7.

I remember being kind of sad hearing spn was renewed for a sixth season. Happy, yes, because I had just got into it and I wanted more. But sad, because I had no idea how they were ever going to get an ending as good as that one.
I gave up on it midway through season 7, then picked it up again until midway through season 8, then picked it up again and gave it up again a couple weeks ago (probably for good this time) and I like to pretend everything after Swan Song is just some weird fever dream//drunken hallucination/hell mirage thing.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Graduation Day. It was perfection.

I was angry, first simply because he was my favorite character and it wasn't a death that seemed necessary to the story, second because it was done so tragically and I'm terrified of drowning, so I cried so much that I felt like the show didn't deserve my viewership after that, lol.

I gotta say, Endeavour: Neverland. The emotional dynamics was so intense. And the plot - unusually good for this show.

Technically a series finale, but I really liked the way Journeyman ended when they knew it wasn't coming back.

And "I know Kung Fu" from Chuck Season 2 holds a special place in my heart.

Was just coming here to say this. As I recall (haven't watched since the show was on the air) Chuck had several good season finales. Probably because they expected them to all be series finales.

Blackadder, Season 4. It was the series finale and it never fails to make me a little misty-eyed.
