You're making a pretty big assumption that the show's fandom will magically vanish after its cancellation. It'll shrink, I'm sure -- become less ubiquitous -- but I imagine it will remain viable for years to come.

This. Not that I know much about SPN fandom at all, but I know it's huge, and there are always those who hang around after the canon has ended. So, yeah.

Agreed. It will be like Star Trek or Star Wars. Even when the show or movies aren't around, the fandom will be. Doing their own thing. (I can even see people doing their own spin-off fanseries on places like youtube.)

I can think of quite a number of fandoms (mainly for superhero cartoons) where the fandoms got exponentially more annoying when their show got cancelled.
