I doubt that the professor just sprung it on people. He/she probably did give a warning but didn't give a specific warning. More like, "Okay, this is going to be graphic. You have been warned" rather than, "This scene is of a graphic rape. You have been warned."

Maybe so. I don't really know how to feel about that situation because I usually assume "graphic" means gore or non-sexual violence, which doesn't really affect me, but depictions of sexual violence make me start to panic.

This is just what I wanted to say. I can watch gore and non-sexual violence all day long, but even non-graphic rape scenes affect me very differently ESPECIALLY if they're unexpected.

I had a professor that did. She loved the movie and wasn't bothered by the rape scene but it upset me pretty badly. I mean, I didn't break down in class, or anything. But I didn't come to watch the second half of the movie, either.
