Current fandoms are a mixed bag, really. On the one hand: fandom's short attention span means that the fandom is actually still kind of big and exciting. On the other hand: a constantly updating canon makes it difficult to participate in anything other than discussion unless you're a speed artist/writer. Since it usually takes me more than a week to write a decent-sized fic, I'm almost always on the sidelines for current fandoms because I refuse to write anything. It's pretty sad for me. :(

Can you write during the show hiatus, assuming it is a show? Or are they the sort of show fandoms where everyone goes "home" for the summer? I was in some like that and hated it.

Me: ... but we can actually discuss everything now and write fic and... nevermind.

Mostly the sort of fandoms that go home. The only ones that were big fandoms during a hiatus (that I noticed) were BBC Sherlock and Teen Wolf, neither of which I was into. :/
