(Anonymous) 2014-05-18 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)Too many villains who on the most basic level seem interesting but we're given almost nothing to work with. Nothing to make us feel invested in seeing them battle Spider-Man. There were too many things going on at once. It's not that I want to see the "popular" villains. It's that none of the villains are anything aside from these guys who are angry with Spider-Man for very weak reasons.
Don't get me wrong. There are things that I really liked in ASM2, like Aunt May and when she tells Peter why she doesn't want him to keep snooping into what happened to his parents. I loved Peter and Gwen. I love Dane DeHaan and I think he did a great job with what was given to him, but I really wished Sony would have had Harry in the first Amazing Spider-Man His character and friendship to Peter felt so tacked on. I liked a lot of the action in the film. As for Electro...I didn't understand why he would grow such a strong hate for Spider-Man so quickly. I understand he felt overlooked his whole life, but it was like blink and you'll miss why Electro decides that he hates Spider-Man. I also thought it wasn't a wise idea to make Max Dillon a total loser super dork. It seemed to suck out any interest in him as a character worth understanding and taking serious, even in the context of the film's universe.
Again, I don't hate the film, but I had a lot of issues with it.
