Season eight - Dean has spent a year in Purgatory with Castiel (part of the time) and Benny, a New Orleans vampire who promises that he knows a way out of Purgatory and he'll deliver if Dean takes him with him. Opens With Dean dropping into the real world again in the wilds of Maine like some kind of crazy wilderness survival guy. He reanimates Benny, who was on bagged blood *before* Purgatory, and they go their separate ways.

We find out that Sam spent the last year shacking up with a woman named Amelia whose husband had died in Afghanistan. They met when Sam mowed down a dog and ran into her vet clinic all wild-eyed, demanding she fix him. Sam has totally left the hunting world and abandoned Kevin and everything else.

Kevin was taken by Crowley but managed to escape and hide the God tablet, and they find him and hear that there is a 'lock up hell forever' spell on the tablet which, of course, they want to do.

We also have a 'found footage' episode that ends with the lone surviving new werewolf of a group of friends going on the road, promising the hunters who will see this vid that she won't kill any humans, and the boys let her go (it was a pretty neat ep, really, i thought).

Let's see...Castiel is yanked out of Purgatory by Naomi (Amanda Tapping), with no memory of how. She's controlling him and using him to spy on the boys and to find the God tablet. Benny asks Dean to help him kill his former vamp family since they killed his one true love, and when Sam realizes that Benny is a vamp, he tells Dean to cut Benny off or they can't work together.

We meet up with Charlie Bradbury again, as the Queen of Moondoor to a lot of LARPers, see Dean in action in chain mail and leather (whoo!) and meet a real-live fairy princess (who falls for Charlie, natch.)

We meet Grandpa Winchester, who was a Men of Letters - a group of scholar-hunters. John was a 'legacy' and was supposed to come into the MoL when he was old enough, but Grandpa, running from Abaddon the demon (a very hot Alaina Huffman), and meets the boys, who know nothing of the MoL. Things happen, the boys eventually inherit a key to the MoL Bunker in Kansas and it's AWESOME. So awesome. Cue Dean in a 'dead guy's robe' and with his own room with a bed with memory foam - 'it remembers me!'

We also meet a Golem who is taking out the last of a line of magically-un-aged Nazis. The kid whose grandad made the golem finally figures out how to 'take ownership', so to speak, and decides he and the golem will go on hunting. Another very cool ep.

Kevin finds out how to close the gates of Hell - three trials! The boys start the trials, Sam is the one who ends up doing them, we meet gods and Krissy from 'Adventures in Babysitting' - she and some other teen hunters have formed their own group - things happen, the bunker is still cool, Castiel is being brainwashed but is fighting, the trials are taking a very bad toll on Sam, we find Metatron and he says he can help them and he tricks Castiel into doing a spell that actually closes the gates of Heaven and kicks all the angels out.

We also find out that ending the trials (making a demon - Crowley - human) will kill Sam and Dean stops him in time, drags him outside to go home and we end the season with angels falling like stars all over the world, their wings flaming out as they fall, thousands of them. It's an epic end-shot.

And that's season eight pared down to the bone.

+1

I think Bitten is one of my top ten favorite episodes. It's great.

Yes! I really enjoyed it, too. I'd love to see her come back as a character in another ep, or maybe hook up with Garth and his new family!
Another thing i forgot to mention!!

:)

Yes, I loved Sharp Teeth! Garth's commentary on the brothers are so spot on, and I'm glad his wife and father-in-law both got to live.
