I've never had quite as much of a problem with general Moffat-bashers because I agree with them very often and the way all his female characters have turned out gives me the creeps, but jesus fuck, there is a contingent of Moffat-bashers that are just completely ludicrously over-the-top hell-bent on interpreting every single minute of every single one of his episodes as white patriarchal heterosexist propaganda.

Like, remember that mini-episode where kid!Clara sees Eleven sitting sadly on a swing and goes up to him to ask him why he's sad? I remember seeing a giant rant on tumblr screeching about how Moffat was "teaching little girls that their purpose in life is to comfort males." Not, say, teaching them that (*gasp!*) empathy and showing concern for other people is a good thing. Like...I dunno what goes through people's heads sometimes.

*facepalm* Yep, I've encountered those type of Moffat-bashers. That's part of why I don't participate in fandom discussion anymore (and likely won't until Moffat leaves, if only because maybe that SJW contingent that likes to interpret everything like you just described will go away with him.)

God, this exactly. Moffat has his flaws, both as a storyteller and as a human being, but I am so tired of seeing people complain about his treatment of the Doctor and his companions (such as the Doctor making decisions for others against their will) and acting as though RTD or any of the previous showrunners would never ever dream of doing so. They complain about him 'objectifying women' and ignore that RTD turned a likeable one-episode female character into an actual, literal sex object.
