His friends warned him as well. It's not just that he's learned to mistrust people, Chris literally will not listen to anyone's advice, no matter who it comes from, how well-intentioned they are or how gently they word it, if implementing it inconveniences him at all. Anything other than "you're doing great, it's everyone else who's terrible and nothing bad that happens to you is your fault" he just straight up ignores.
