British media, across the political spectrum, will quite happily demonise whichever dog breed has been involved in a fatal attack. And the letters pages will be filled with outraged comments from people who want that entire breed and their owners to be killed on sight.

I'm not exaggerating on that, btw. There was one comment in a certain tabloid paper that wanted the dogs' owners to be killed alongside the dogs. I think it was after a pack of staffies, that were known to be aggressive, killed a teenager... who walked into the room they were penned up in carrying a hot meat pie.

Here in Liverpool, a newspaper recently reported that a bunch of 'gangster-owned' banned breeds were seized and euthanised. I work in a local animal shelter, and I know they had nothing to do with gangsters. They were family pets who'd previously been put on the Dangerous Dogs Act's exemption list, because they'd passed a temperament test and were known to be safe with people. Some were old, at least one was disabled. Family pets, rounded up and slaughtered in service to pointless hysteria.

arrrrrgggghhhhhhh. Why, people.

So irrational and ignorant.

And I hate stories like that last bit too, where animals are demonized for behaving exactly like you'd predict them to behave. Not saying it's not tragic - it really is - but it's also not their "fault". Learn how to behave around animals, for srs folks.

That story makes me think of a guy I once knew from church. He worked as a security guard and had security-trained dogs. We had a couple of church social evenings at his place and each time people had to come in and go out, he had to make sure the dogs were secured.

The thing about your story of the teen with a pie is that I would have enough sense not to dare g out while the guard dogs of the guy from church were loose in his yard. Some people however don't have that good sense, especially when they are young.
