It depends on your definition of a dress code.
Asking the students to dress modestly and avoid wearing revealing clothing or offensive shirts is perfectly fine, it should be common sense.
Uniforms can be adorable but if they clothes are gendered, it could be a problem for people who might feel uncomfortable wearing one.

That could be easily solved by simply allowing the students to wear whichever uniform they want.

I've never seen a school uniform that didn't look completely fucking dorky.
