I don't think that's really equivalent? Guys aren't prevented from wearing any kind of shorts, t-shirts, tank tops, etc. Girls are in some places.

At my school they were, actually. Guys couldn't wear tank tops / shirts with large arm holes, shorts that went far below the knee or too far above. They had to wear collared shirts, no t-shirts. Basically they had fewer options than girls but it was also easier for them to find appropriate clothing in stores.

Huh. That makes me wonder if it's at least partly the school policy makers not quite understanding what clothing is available for teenagers. Not that that's really excusable, but still.

I'm sure it doesn't help. Some of it just isn't compatible - girls can't show skin above the waistband, which was easy when all the shirts went long when I was in high school, but now shirt hems are rising again, so many shirts will need a layer underneath, which is fine as long as there are long camis available, but if that style changes too? The no t-shirts rule especially makes things tough when current fashions aren't dress code friendly.
