Re: Controversial opinions: Animal edition

I am relatively bad asthma, so every time I see one of those animals, and I can hear them breathing... It really gets to me. :(

I wish there was some sort of group dedicated to some of the breeds back to their "traditional" forms, and/or breeding out the newer unhealthier traits (I mean, I know that some people like them, but it just causes so many issues!).

Wouldn't that be awesome though? I mean, the traditional (doll face) Persian is actually kind of cute, and isn't brachycephalic like the modern ones.

Oh they are very cute!

Why did people breed them with smushed faces? What was the purpose?

From what I can tell (aka wikipedia :P) "The brachycephaly mutation in the Persian breed occurred during World War II in the US. This led to a concerted effort to breed Persians with rounder heads and smaller ears than their ancient ancestors after World War 2. The resultant brachycepahalic heads lead to the much desired snub noses favored by many modern Persian breeders and which dictates the modern standard for Persians in cat fancies throughout the world."

So yeah, I guess people just really liked the way that they looked like they were looking down on everyone, or something. I think it looks really dumb, personally, and I hope the doll-face makes a comeback.

Why the fuck would anyone want an ugly smushed face persian over a cutie like this? Whyyyyy.

Right?

Luckily, the flat faced ones are getting banned from some fanciers/breeders, because of their health issues, but as far as I can tell, the CFA and TICA are still pro-smushfaced cats, and since they're the biggest groups...

Ayrt

Seriously. Thank you so much, I had never knew about this type of persian.

And that's good, but ugh, I wish that something more could be done. Especially for the cats since they're the ones that have to suffer through all of those health problems.

You're welcome. :)

Yeah, me too. If I had a million dollars I'd, IDK, make football half time commercials about how awesome doll-faces are, or see if I could get Cat Fancy to do an article on them or something just to get the word out. :/

Doll-faces are adorable! Smush-faces? Not so much, and the more severe are downright ugly.

I agree. I feel bad for the cats, though, it's no their fault they were breed to look like that! |D
