Yeah, no single Japanese person knows about any of that stuff.

Most writers are guilty of that. I think this author specially, since he really likes to pull ridiculous stuff out of his ass.

Not saying they don't, just saying I've noticed more Japanese writers are apt to ignore than Western writers tend to. Could have to do with their unique relationship to technology, historically, could be cultural, could just be what they think is important versus what they think is cool.

I've noticed the same thing, tbh. I've seen western writers who also do it, but generally I've seen more Japanese writers do it, and to a much larger extent.

Though, to be fair, that could just be that the writers who've done it have been the ones who've also ended up being translated.
