I can't imagine never taking your shoes off inside. How often do you have to clean your floors? Do you have carpeting?

(Canadian here, by the way. And yeah we always take our shoes off. XD)

Actually, we do have a lot of hardwood and tile, now that I think about it.

Perhaps we fall on the other side of the line between "don't get the floors filthy" and "well, the floors all get filthy anyway, so don't get your socks filthy."

Though I live in Minnesota now, I was born and raised in Florida. For Floridians, you can get away with not cleaning the floors for almost a month, especially in the winter. That being said, the most common types of shoes tend to not have very steep treads (e.g. flip flops), so not a lot gets caught in them. And yes, I'm aware I stereotyped Floridians. On the coasts, though, flip flops are as prevalent as you think. Some school dress codes even accommodate for them.
