Well, you know, it does have effects. And, even if you can't say if it's the cause, it certainly doesn't help.

I have high blood pressure (which my mom also has, so not sure if genetic or weight - but I'm guessing probably both).

There's also the issue of me being born with hypermobility, and my joints have it hard staying together as it is. Excess weight doesn't quite help. I must be insanely lucky, because I know a girl my age who weighs way less, but has much more pain/complications and is on meds and wears finger braces. I have been having more trouble with my ankles and feet though, lately, which is the main reason I'm losing weight now.

Good luck! I envy people who are healthy despite being over their optimal weight, a bit. I think of how great they'd feel without it.

A dietitian I know prefers working with those wishing to loose weight VS those who wish to gain because it easier... My thoughts on weight are a bit jumbled because it concernes my image and self image and I just generally IDK about it.)

I heard about blood pressure connection to stress, weight, unhealthy lifestyle, hormones and what not, but loosing weight should definitely help you, because it's beneficial in any case! For example loosing just five killos helps lower, er-rr, I think it was a heart problem risks, anyway, it lowers it by 20%, which boggles mind.

I have given my body so much shit over the years I'm surprised it's still working as it is.

I think the problem with the Fat Acceptance movement is it jumbled several things together.

Feeling good about yourself, even if you're not traditionally attractive = good.

Ignoring health risks associated with your lifestyle = bad.

And honestly the scare I got from my body is a 1000 times more motivation for me than looks ever were. I don't have to be thin, but I don't want to be in a wheelchair by 40.

I'm still a shitty cook, but shitty is a step up from not a cook at all. :)

You put it so concisely and well, thank you. I'm overweight with a family history of heart trouble and diabetes, so weight loss needs to happen for my health and well being. It doesn't mean I feel ashamed of the weight I carry but I'd be nuts to ignore the very real health risks it poses for me.
