Honestly I'd rather they thought they were courageous dweebs who wore dress uniforms 24/7 than judge us by the shit the actual RCMP gets caught doing.

The RCMP are pathetic

Sorry, to clarify, I'm talking about the lazy brushing off of the human rights report against them.

...you sound like you live in a city.

For the non-Canadians playing at home: The Mounties have jurisdiction in rural areas, i.e., wherever there isn't a metro/city police force, IOW wherever there isn't a city. Sure, there are bad cops everywhere, but I would much rather see a Mountie around, in my neck of the woods. Even if they are mostly only handing out speeding tickets. :-P

Oh I'm not saying they're all terrible, but there have been some really ugly scandals (I'm in Vancouver) that I'd rather not be part of our national symbolism, ya know? I don't think they think very highly of mounties in Poland, for example, because the Dziekański incident was in the news there.

AYRT

Sorry, that was my knee-jerk reaction; totally understandable why you feel the way you do, Vancouver is basically the worst place on earth, and the bad cops there are like the rotten icing on that particular failcake. (Lived in the Lower Mainland for way too many years.) FWIW I don't think anyone in the rest of the country thinks those people are Mounties; or even wants them to be Mounties. I'm also reminded of the sexual assault/harassment case brought by the female officer, that was in BC, too, IIRC.

Very true, that. The scandals and allegations they have against them are a whole lot worse than the dweeby red dress uniform.
