(Anonymous) 2014-05-22 12:29 am (UTC)(link)For the non-Canadians playing at home: The Mounties have jurisdiction in rural areas, i.e., wherever there isn't a metro/city police force, IOW wherever there isn't a city. Sure, there are bad cops everywhere, but I would much rather see a Mountie around, in my neck of the woods. Even if they are mostly only handing out speeding tickets. :-P

(Anonymous) 2014-05-22 02:50 am (UTC)(link)Sorry, that was my knee-jerk reaction; totally understandable why you feel the way you do, Vancouver is basically the worst place on earth, and the bad cops there are like the rotten icing on that particular failcake. (Lived in the Lower Mainland for way too many years.) FWIW I don't think anyone in the rest of the country thinks those people are Mounties; or even wants them to be Mounties. I'm also reminded of the sexual assault/harassment case brought by the female officer, that was in BC, too, IIRC.
