Is anyone here just totally uninterested in shippy fic?
(Anonymous) 2014-05-22 01:39 am (UTC)(link)This is not unique to slash. I also don't care about non-canonical or minor het romances either, and I don't read whole long fics dedicated solely to canon het romances, even if they're a major part of canon, because dude, I already saw it in canon. I don't exactly dislike or oppose romance in canon, I just find it to be one of the most uninteresting topics to explore in fanfic.
The only part that makes me feel guilty is that while I would theoretically like there to be more major canon gay/lesbian romances between main characters in TV shows where being gay is *not* the entire point of the show or the characters involved, I *still* don't really care about romantic storylines of any kind. Romance takes up too much damn screentime.
/and no, I am not asexual or uninterested in romance IRL, it's just soooooooooo overrated as a central topic in fiction.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-22 02:15 am (UTC)(link)And why can't two people just be good friends? There's a lot of depth and beauty in that.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-22 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)*I'm talking about the rabid slashers, to be clear.
Re: Is anyone here just totally uninterested in shippy fic?
(Anonymous) 2014-05-22 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)Heck, even when there is a 'ship I would rather read about the partners other relationships.
Re: Is anyone here just totally uninterested in shippy fic?
If anyone is giving you shite about it, fuck 'em. I am sick to death of 'romance' for the sake of romance, and most tv shows and movies would be 100 percent better without that whole aspect.
Re: Is anyone here just totally uninterested in shippy fic?
But what I really get sick of is shippy *discussion* I am so sick of people being all about the ship potential and squeeing over how two characters glanced at each other and focusing on just the shippy hints in an episode when what I really want to talk about is the episode's really interesting themes and ideas or really thought-provoking subject matter or the significance and intricacy of the characters' friendships or other interpersonal dynamics and how these are important to the show as a whole. Shipping is so....fragmentary.
