Okay, I have a question. Is it cool or weird to see a pokemonified version of your country?

a bit of both, though the cool outweighs the weird. some things make me roll my eyes, like the emphasis on ~style~ and the poodle pokémon, but it actually is really fun to see how people from another country on the other side of the world view yours. while some of it is definitely cliché, there are little things that are surprisingly close to reality, like the trainer with a baguette in her paper bag, the carnac stones, or the architecture of the smaller towns.

The team did actually visit France so that might have had a part in it.

yeah, i read an article that quoted junichi masuda and he said they made a point to visit both the well known areas and the less touristy areas, to make sure to be able to portray both equally well in the game. i appreciate that.

Huh, that sounds cool. :3 I can understand why it would be interesting to see how you're viewed by others.

Out of curiosity, what were some of the things you thought were so off they were funny? What were some of the clichés that made your eyes roll?

eh, the most eyeroll worthy things i found were mostly related to the style thing and lumiose city; the galettes, the black bérets and striped shirts, the emphasis on fashion, etc. i don't have any particularly funny examples.
the sex god perfume-loving professor is so over the top i can't help but love him, though. the hipsters that don't let you go to route 15 because you're not cool enough were hilarious, too.
a petty thing that annoys me: pokémon-amie should be spelled pokémon-ami.

eta: now that i think about it there's a lot of sex allusions in x/y. like the beds in the hotel being drenched in perfume, and the couple watching the prism tower. sometimes i forget it's a children's game.

I did not know the galettes were a cliche. In fact, I actually didn't know what they were before I got the game. I feel silly.

Ha, yeah, I like the professor too.

Oh? I wonder why the added the e. When I google I find the word spelled both ways.

Oh man, I missed all of those. @_@ I should go back.

As I recall, the "e" indicates something(s) feminine, whereas "ami" without is either singular masculine or plural when a group includes masculine and feminine objects or subjects.

Considering I don't know if this is a weird NPC name or a pokedex feature, or what, I can't really say. I feel so behind the Pokemon times. ToT;

It's a minigame. Good to know the minigame is a girl.

It's interesting to see how a French person felt about Kalos! I'm from the UK and have been to France a few times and whilst I felt the emphasis on ~~style~~ was overblown to the point of stupid, a lot of the routes felt spot-on. Route 6, the one to the perfume palace, definitely felt right. I've driven down roads in France that look like that.
