I've always been ambivalent on the fanservice aspect of. I think it distracts from the actual plot in certain shows, but for things that are already rolling in it anyway, it's fine. It's also one of the few mediums (I guess? it's not a genre) that has a somewhat steady stream of stuff that directly panders to women, probably because of that approach.
