I don't mind it so much as an adjective, especially if it's describing attraction rather than people, but when people use it as a noun then I cringe.

Oh and that reminds me! I hate when men are called men but then women are "females".

that is the worst. My lil Republican brother uses it ALL THE TIME and plays dumb when the rest of us tell him that there are more appropriate words to use when talking about humans.

I find it irritates me less if I read comments referring to women as females in David Attenborough's voice. Kinda like a bigoted nature documentary.

Ugh, "females." My irritation at that usage is starting to actively inhibit my ability to enjoy things.

For some reason I keep hearing the voice of the albino Shadow Proclamation lady from "The Stolen Earth" - the second-last episode of fourth season Doctor Who.

"Who is the female?" (In a very disdainful tone.)

I'm in my fifties and I hate being called "miss". That's what you say to high school girls. Call me "ma'am".
