No, I don't mean in the sense of "X and Y are really close and have great chemistry and love each other like crazy so they are good friends." I mean the other sense: "X is a really good friend to Y because s/he is so good to Y."

Basically, looking for individual characters who are great friends to their friends, not duos/trios who are super-close and stuff.

Daria and Jane, sanz the awful Tom arc

Tangent: I love how the finale movie had Daria basically saying "We should break up now because this arc has run its course."

I always thought Donna and Ten really complimented each other. More so than any other of Ten's companions.

Ron Swanson is a deeply flawed person, but he is a really good friend to Leslie.

and vice versa. The episode where Leslie teased him relentlessly about her plans for his birthday, then gave him exactly the birthday celebration he most wanted? perfection.

Stiles might be this to Scott (Teen Wolf).
Christina and Meredith (Grey's Anatomy).
Hank and Monroe are pretty good friends to Nick (Grimm).
G and Sam (NCIS:LA).
Reese is a good friend to Finch (Person of Interest).

Agreeing with the Reese and Finch set. I'd say it goes the other way as well.

I don't know if anyone will agree with me, but IMO Jerry Seinfeld (the fictional character) was a very good friend to the other three characters, although he was a terrible person. The fact that his friends were terrible people too makes it more impressive than it would be otherwise.

Going way oldschool, but Andy Taylor on the Andy Griffith Show, to Barney Fife. I mean, he not only puts up with Barney's ridiculousness, but doesn't even get annoyed by it until it gets REALLY out of hand, and is always encouraging him and trying to build up his self-esteem and playfully teasing him to make Barney take himself less seriously. Okay, so Andy sometimes goes a liiiiittle overboard with the pranks, but still, in the balance, he's pretty amazing.

I'd like to be friends with Boyle (from Brooklyn 99) and Annie (from Community) because they support their friends in hilarious and endearing ways.

After the "best man" episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I'd also like to be Jake's friend for the same reason.

Troy and Abed. They fit both categories, but I love how good they are to each other.

I love Abed. He and Shirley were the only two characters in Community I really liked and would have hung out with in a New York minute.
