That's just weird. Why *slash* in particular? Seems to me that *shipping* (well, laser-guided shipping that disregards everything going on in a fictional story apart from the ship) is the sort of thing people would/should/ought to grow out of.

OTOH, I've also heard a lot of people say that het is baby steps for teenagers, and slash is the more serious and mature thing to do and what perceptive, grownup fans do. Takes all kinds I guess.
