I remember reading GONE! It was amazing, but it also absolutely terrified me. (I very vividly remember the kids with their limp dead hands set in concrete.) I never actually read further than that, though I do have the second on my shelf.

It's terrifying (it gets even worse than the hands-in-concrete thing... much worse) but so, so good. Also one of the few things I've ever bonded with my mother over, she got as addicted to the series as me.
